Perhaps the heavy rain of the first few months has soaked the soil so well that this year more plants have grown to a size than ever before. Some are almost twice as high as before.
Japanese Knotweed
The tallest perennial in the garden for 25 years. 2 1/2 meters is normal. He is currently a good 1 meter above it.
Zebra grass
3 years, its sparse culms were barely 30 cm high. Last year it exploded into a vigorous bush about 1 meter tall, which is now about 1.5 meters tall and very lush.
Panicle Hydrangea
It is the most developed hydrangea in the garden and has grown to more than 2 meters this year.
Petasia
She is our replacement for a Gunnera that unfortunately didn’t want to grow with us. As a consolation we brought this large-leaved pond plant from Hungary, which is called giant leaf there. For the first few years, the leaves were the size of the palm of your hand. But they have been really big for 2 years – but only this year real giants with a diameter of 70 cm grew!
Loosestrife
For years we tried to settle purple loosestrife at the pond. With moderate success. However, some seeds have prevailed. Already last year we had some beautiful plants. But today’s are more than 2 meters high!! At 172 cm, Laura is like a dwarf!
Lavender
In 2016, this lavender bed was planted on the path next to the pond and has developed beautifully. 1 1/2 meters is this year’s record.
Acanthus
Normally it grows almost 1 meter tall – 50 cm taller.
Giant Cephalaria
When we planted the new flower bed on the apple tree 3 years ago, we wanted some taller companion plants between the roses. So far, this task has also been solved satisfactorily – but now the scaly head is growing rampant in the apple tree and meandering through the branches. 3 meters are certainly already reached.
Federmohn
