In mid-June we fulfilled Laura’s heart’s desire and flew to the Azores to experience the hydrangea blossom there.
It’s really unbelievable what abundance of hydrangeas grow there! The roadsides are lined with it, and cattle pastures are delimited by endless hydrangea hedges.
In our garden, this flowering splendor came true only 1 month later, in smaller quantities, but more beautifully and lushly than in previous years. Even the plants that barely survived last year showed small flowers.
Since last autumn we have been pouring the coffee brew daily as fertilizer for the hydrangeas – we can now admire the good result.
It is striking that, apart from the white ones, all bloom in reddish tones. It probably comes from the coffee too.
We brought 4 cuttings from this blue plate hydrangea, well packed in damp cloths. They are growing well and have new leaves. In the spring we will then distribute them in the garden!
