On December 1st we flew to Madeira.
On December 1st it started to snow and freeze. According to our friends’ reports, it was freezing hard and the photos showed about 20 cm of snow.
When we arrived at night on the 13th, the snow had long since disappeared and the temperature was bearable at 7°C.
This morning we were confronted with the chaos left by snow and frost:
All taller perennials were bent, bushes and roses were partially broken off, the leaves of the exposed yuccas were hanging frozen (we hope the plants survive), a rose arch collapsed under the weight and needs to be replaced, the zebra grass lies in a brown bundle on top ground and the bamboo bends down low.
The pond is frozen and there is still some snow on it.
