Located on a southern slope near Funchal and founded by the Carvalhal family about 200 years ago, this beautiful garden extends over 12 hectares.

The garden was laid out from 1801, initially mainly with exotic trees and plants. A camellia avenue was also created, in which some plants from this period still grow today!

From 1885 the estate was owned by the Blandy family of wine merchants, who still live there today.

From 1920 onwards, the garden was continuously expanded and finally made accessible to the public.
