Who would have thought that after the last cold, rainy days of August, it would be such a wonderful late summer. It’s pleasantly hot and we can finally take our midday siesta in the garden again after going into the cool house to escape the brutal heat of summer
had fled.
Autumn is already evident with the first rose hips and the blooming of asters and bearded flowers. Some roses bloom again after the heat, and the yellow stars of Jerusalem artichokes float high above the garden.
Many flowers fade beautifully, but there is still dense greenery everywhere.
Almost all of the apples fell off during the heat period, so we collected them and made strudel apples from them. There is no apple juice this year, but we collected the grapes that were still green and pressed verjuice out of them. We now not only use verjuice as a substitute for vinegar, but also drink it diluted. Tastes almost like lemonade.
After a long time, our last plum tree is finally bearing a lot – we are looking forward to Powidl! And another pleasant surprise: the pear tree on the fence is bearing lots of fruit for the first time!
Since we often see oleanders planted freely in our area, we decided to plant the 5 largest in protected places. Finally 5 less large pots to overwinter!
